How to connect the Vendd MCP server to ChatGPT

Create a custom MCP server in ChatGPT with the URL https://mcp.vendd.app, sign in to your Vendd account and edit your sites right from the chat.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that lets AI assistants use tools from other services. In ChatGPT, an MCP server becomes a plugin: with the Vendd MCP connector, ChatGPT can list your sites, build pages, change text and adjust the design right from the chat, always within the permissions of your account.

Before you start

Have a Vendd account with at least one site created in the dashboard. The connector works on the sites and pages that already exist in your account: to build a new page, create it in the dashboard first and then ask ChatGPT to fill it in.
Have ChatGPT on the Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise plan. The Free and Go plans cannot connect custom MCP servers.
Use ChatGPT in your browser, at chatgpt.com (opens in a new tab), to create the connection.
In Business and Enterprise workspaces, an admin needs to grant the Create plugins with MCPs permission to your role. See Teams and workspaces.
If you are a collaborator in a company on Vendd, you need permission to edit sites in that company.

Note

OpenAI recently changed this path: creating MCP servers, which used to live in developer mode, is now on the Plugins page. If your account still shows developer mode, the details to fill in are the same: name, URL and OAuth authentication.

Create the Vendd plugin

Open ChatGPT (opens in a new tab) in your browser and sign in.
In the sidebar, click Plugins.
Click the + button (Add plugin) and choose Create custom MCP server.
Under Name, type Vendd. The description and icon are optional.
Under Connection, set the Server URL to https://mcp.vendd.app, with nothing after the address.
Under Authentication, choose OAuth. Leave OAuth client ID and OAuth client secret empty: ChatGPT finds the Vendd sign-in settings on its own.
Read the risk warning, check I understand and want to continue and click Create.

Important

Do not choose the API key option or add headers. Vendd does not use any of them: access is always authorized in your own account.

In Plugins, open the Personal tab and click Vendd. If Install plugin appears, click it.
When ChatGPT asks, click Connect. This can happen during installation or the first time it uses a Vendd tool.
On the Vendd screen, sign in with the email and password of your account. The Vendd authorization screen is currently in Portuguese, so the labels below include a translation.
Under Empresa que o app poderá acessar (company the app can access), choose the company that owns the sites you want to edit.
Under Permissões solicitadas (requested permissions), keep the Sites permission turned on. Without it, ChatGPT can see the Vendd tools but cannot use any of them.
Click Autorizar acesso (authorize access) and go back to ChatGPT.

Use Vendd in a chat and test it

Start a new chat.
Type @ in the message box and choose Vendd. You can also click + and type the plugin name.
Send the message: List my Vendd sites

If everything is set up correctly, ChatGPT replies with the sites in your account. It also uses installed plugins on its own when a request is related to them; if it does not use Vendd, mention @Vendd again.

Tip

Before each action that changes something on your site, ChatGPT shows what will be sent and asks you to confirm. Check the details and confirm. You can remember your choice for that tool until the end of the chat.

What you can ask for

The connector gives ChatGPT the Vendd site and page tools: list sites and pages, inspect and review a page, search for text across the whole site, build an entire page, rewrite sections, change text and images, change colors and styles, and edit the menu and footer. A few requests to get started:

Build the Financial Consulting page on the My Consulting site as a landing page to capture leads.
Review the home page of the My Consulting site and point out contrast and hierarchy issues.
Change the title of the first section of the Contact page to "Talk to us".
Find which pages of the site show the old phone number and replace it with the new one.
Add a link to the Plans page in the site menu.

Important

The connector does not publish anything. Changes are saved as a draft in the Vendd editor: check the result in the editor and click Publicar (publish) when everything looks right.

Security and permissions

ChatGPT sees and does only what your account can do in the Vendd dashboard, in the company you chose when authorizing.
The connector does not publish sites and does not delete sites or pages. It changes and removes content inside pages, always in the draft.
You do not share a password or API key with ChatGPT. Access is granted on the Vendd authorization screen and can be revoked at any time.

Teams and workspaces

On ChatGPT's Business and Enterprise plans, workspace admins control who can create plugins with MCP servers:

In Workspace settings > Permissions & roles, choose the role of the people who will create the plugin.
Turn on Create plugins with MCPs. On Enterprise, this permission is off by default.

The person who created the plugin can share it with the rest of the workspace from the ••• menu > Share plugin. Each person installs the plugin and clicks Connect to sign in to their own Vendd account, and sees only the data of their own account.

Common problems

What happens	How to fix it
The Create custom MCP server option does not appear	Check that your plan is Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise and that you are using the browser. In a workspace, ask your admin for the Create plugins with MCPs permission.
Error creating connector or a message saying no OAuth configuration was found	Check that the URL is exactly `https://mcp.vendd.app`, with no `/mcp` or spaces at the end, and try again.
ChatGPT asks you to sign in again or Vendd stopped responding	In Settings > Plugins, open Vendd, disconnect it under Connected accounts and connect it again.
ChatGPT says it lacks permission to use the tool	The Sites permission was turned off during authorization. In the Vendd dashboard, open Settings > Connected apps, click Manage permissions next to ChatGPT, turn on Sites and click Save permissions.
The list of sites comes back empty	The account has no site yet. Create the site in the Vendd dashboard and ask again.
A site that exists in the dashboard does not appear	You authorized a different company. Disconnect, connect again and choose the right company on the authorization screen.
New Vendd tools do not show up	In Plugins, open Vendd and click Refresh. Then start a new chat.

If the problem persists, contact the Vendd team.

How to disconnect

In ChatGPT: in Settings > Plugins, open Vendd and, under Connected accounts, click Disconnect. To remove the plugin, use Uninstall; to delete it for good, open Plugins > Personal > Created by me and choose Delete.
In Vendd: in the dashboard, open Settings > Connected apps and click Disconnect next to ChatGPT. Access ends immediately.
